Board Certified Neuropsychologist
I am a licensed psychologist who has been in practice in Silver Spring, Maryland since 1999. In addition to holding psychology licenses in the District of Columbia and Virginia, I am Board Certified in Clinical Neuropsychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology and the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology (ABPP-CN). I also have achieved Subspecialty Board Certification in Pediatric Neuropsychology (ABPdN) through the American Board of Pediatric Neuropsychology. I am qualified to perform neuropsychological evaluations throughout the lifespan, working with very young children to adults. Some areas of specialty include the assessment of learning disabilities, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), cognition, and social/emotional and behavioral concerns. In addition to my extensive clinical training and experience, I provide forensic consultation, assessment, and testimony, particularly in the areas of birth injury, brain injury, and medical malpractice claims. I was trained in a scientist-practitioner model of neuropsychological evaluation and provide comprehensive evaluations tailored to the client’s individual needs and profile.
Dr. Susannah Hughes obtained an A.B. in 1991 summa cum laude from Princeton University, winning an award for the best senior thesis, which discussed psychosocial themes in the work of Marcel Proust, in the French Language & Literature Department. During a gap year between her undergraduate and graduate studies, Dr. Hughes worked full-time as a teacher’s aide at the Stanley S. Lamm Preschool for children with developmental delays through Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn Heights, New York, while also taking evening classes at The New School for Social Research in statistics. Beginning in 1992, Dr. Hughes completed doctoral studies in Clinical and Health Psychology with an Area of Specialization in Child Psychology at the University of Florida at Shands Teaching Hospital in Gainesville, earning her Ph.D. in 1997. She then completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in Clinical Psychology at the Neurology, Learning, & Behavior Center in Salt Lake City, obtaining additional assessment experience and graduate-level coursework in neuropsychology at the University of Utah. She has published multiple peer-reviewed journal articles on a variety of neuropsychological and health psychology topics.
