Educational Consulting
Our mission is to partner with families to develop safe, supportive environments at home and at school that optimize their students’ educational experiences and improve the well-being of the whole family.
The Stixrud Group is delighted to partner with the Stixrud Educational Consulting Group, LLC, which provides a range of services related to school selection and educational programming. SECG was founded, and is owned, by Starr Stixrud, M.Ed. and Martha Ein, M.Ed., with the mission of partnering with families to develop safe, supportive environments at home and at school that optimize their students’ educational experiences and improve the well-being of the whole family. To reach this goal, they help families assess their child’s current school placement, understand and implement neuropsychological evaluations, explore schools which might be a good fit for their children, and use information provided by interactions with the family, school observations, and testing to determine the need for supports and/or accommodations which could help the child succeed.
Stixrud Educational Consulting: Services
Classroom Observations
Classroom observations may be requested by families or suggested by a psychologist who is conducting an evaluation. They provide the opportunity for a professional, who is not known by the child, to observe behaviors related to learning, socialization with peers, following classroom routines, and interactions with adults.
Neuropsychological Evaluations: The Next Step
SECG can assist families with reviewing neuropsychological evaluations and implementing recommendations. This process may include discussing the child’s needs with the psychologist who has evaluated them, helping parents understand assessment results, and prioritizing and implementing recommendations.
Finding Schools that Fit
SECG has extensive experience with school selection and the application process. In addition, they visit area schools frequently and meet with administrators, admissions personnel, and teachers to ensure that their information is useful and up-to-date. As a result, beginning with interviews with families, meetings with children, and educational and evaluation records, SECG can suggest schools which are a good fit for individual children, supporting their areas of strength and meeting their needs in areas of challenge.
Working with Schools
With their positive relationships with a variety of schools, both public and independent, SECG can help parents and schools work together to develop and implement learning plans for students.
Planning and Supporting Transitions
Whether a child is moving to a new division within a school, or transitioning to a new school, SECG can help parents and school personnel plan for the individualized support which will lead to a positive and successful beginning.
Support for Parents and Families
SECG supports parents and families as they develop and implement routines in the home which support their students. Areas of focus may include developing effective homework strategies, healthy daily routines, and time for family fun.
Early Childhood
In addition to the services listed above, SECG has a special interest in young children who have not yet begun K-12 education. SECG can help parents identify areas of concern in a child’s development, consider whether formal assessment is needed, work with preschool teachers on understanding and supporting a child’s needs, and explore factors relevant to kindergarten readiness.
