Dr. Robb Mapou

Dr. Robb Mapou is a board-certified clinical neuropsychologist and has been with The Stixrud Group since 1993.  He evaluates adolescents, adults, and seniors for learning disabilities, ADHD, and range of neurological conditions, including concussion, dementia, stroke, severe traumatic brain injury, and epilepsy.  However, he is nationally-recognized for his work on assessment of learning disabilities and ADHD in adults.  His 2009 book, Adult Learning Disabilities and ADHD: Research Informed Assessment, published by Oxford University Press, was the first to summarize research on learning disabilities and ADHD in adults and use it to guide neuropsychological assessment.  Dr. Mapou has written chapters on adult learning disability and ADHD assessment, regularly presents continuing education workshops to professionals on the topic, and appeared on a segment of Dr. Dean Edell’s syndicated program, Medical Breakthroughs.

In February 2009, he participated in an invited debate at the annual meeting of the International Neuropsychological Society, during which he argued for comprehensive assessment of learning disabilities in adults.  In addition to assessment, Dr. Mapou can consult with clients who have already been evaluated, to help determine whether they qualify for accommodations on high-stakes testing (e.g., SAT, ACT, MCAT, LSAT, GRE, GMAT, USMLE, bar examination).  He can provide similar disability-determination consultation for colleges and universities.  Finally, he does medico-legal (forensic), fitness-for-duty, and competency evaluations with a neuropsychological focus.  Dr. Mapou holds faculty appointments in the Department of Neurology (Psychology) at Georgetown University School of Medicine, and the Departments of Psychiatry and Neurology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.  He has served on the editorial boards of Neuropsychology, the Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society, and the Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation.  He currently serves as Member-At-Large on the Board of Directors of the National Academy of Neuropsychology.  He served as President of the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology from 2004 to 2006.

Of his 2009 book, Doody’s Book Review Service wrote, “This extremely accessible book not only provides a cogent review of the literature, but also delves into the practical aspects of assessing adult ADHD and learning disabilities. For students and experienced clinicians alike, this book offers a valuable learning experience.”
